  • Overwintered spinach harvest today! We left this spinach in the kitchen garden under cover all winter and all that freezing and thawing made it so sweet! We also tried out our new microscope today and learned about trichomes. According to the University of New Hampshire extension office, trichomes are “hair-like outgrowths from the epidermis of the leaf, and many plants (including spinach) produce them. Trichomes come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, and have different purposes. In the case of spinach, if you look closely with a microscope, you can see that there is a little hair that comes from the leaf surface, and a big glob at the end.“ So cool! Check out the images of trichomes in the last photo. #plantscience #spinach #overwinteredspinach #kitchengarden #openfarmhouse #farm #live #create #reddingct

Last week we had the honor of attending the soft launch of @boyfriendcoop in Brooklyn. Our friend and former Open Grange resident (iykyk) Mica (pictured in the tree and with the mushrooms) co-founded this cooperatively run queer cafe, bar, and event space. Boyfriend Co-op celebrates racial, sexual, and gender diversity in a comfortable and colorful setting. Also both the cocktails and mocktails are delicious! The vibes are so welcoming and offer such an important space for community. Congrats to the @boyfriendcoop team! And to our growing community here on Instagram, go check out this awesome space next time you’re in NYC!

We have been working on redecorating the farmhouse and are super excited to share some images of the bedrooms with new block print linens we purchased during our travels to India this past January. We have proudly furnished the farmhouse with thrifted finds but there is something really special about supporting artisans and bringing that touch of color and warmth into Open Farmhouse. We hope you will feel as at home as we do in these spaces! #farmhouse #blockprint #openfarmhouse #reddingct #redecorating #allarewelcome

Planes, trains, tuk tuks, and our own two feet…we recently got back from an incredible trip to India. We stayed with our friend and neighbor Geshe Dhargey, met the Dalai Lama, traveled around Kerala, ate delicious vegetarian food, learned about farming spices and tea, stayed on a mountain top, and brought back some beautiful hand-block printed bed linens and rugs for the farmhouse. We feel invigorated and inspired. Hope these photos brighten your day!
